Product Description
Vinotemp VT-12TEDS Thermo Electric Digital Black w/Stainless Steel trim (12) Bottle wine cooler. With the innovative thermo-electric cooling system, which involves very few moving parts, your wine will be protected from unneccessary vibration. More importantly, Thermo-electric cooling does not use ozone depleating chemicals such as CFC's or HCFC's so you will be sure that you are doing your part to preserve the environment. For increased enery efficiency, the VT-12 uses dual paned glass windows, a technology that has been proven in the construction industry. They have better insulation properties and better UV protection providing energy efficiency which will lead to less electricity usage and savings. The VT-12 unit has a black cabinet with stainless door trim and handle. Sturdy shelf racking is specially designed for individual bottle storage.

1 out of 5 stars Poor Quality - Not Built to Last   November 19, 2008
Michael D. Smith (Tucson, AZ United States)
Several months into owning this vinotemp, it started having trouble keeping the temperature at 55 and was often at 65 or warmer.

Then 10 months after owning it burnt out and died. Like another reviewer said, Vinotemp said the product only had a 90 day warranty and I was out of luck.

5 out of 5 stars Running great   August 25, 2008

I have been using my fridge for about a month now and have no problems. It has kept my wine cool even when my apartment has reached 90+. not great for large format. Would highly recommend

1 out of 5 stars DO NOT BUY!!!   June 3, 2008

Mine broke about four months after I bought it. Instead of cooling my wines it heated them to over 90 degrees! Two bottles were ruined.

The company's warantee is only good for 90 days. I called and they said tough luck, not their problem. They do NOT stand by their product.

5 out of 5 stars Excellent First Wine Cellar   January 12, 2008

I did a lot of reseach on different wine cellars before I finally settled on this one. Each product I reviewed did have its trade offs. With this particular item, it is true--larger bottles may not fit as easily.

However, this particular wine cellar was extremely quiet, is not overly large, will fit 12 normal size bottles (or just a little less with bigger bottles) and just looks good.

Since I do not necessarily always have 12 bottles in stock at home, the size of the bottles do not affect me that much. As to the shelves sliding all the way out, again...it doesn't make that much of a difference to me since I usually know which wines are on which shelves and haven't needed to slide them out except maybe twice.

For the price, the size, the look, and the extreme quietness...this is a great purchase.

3 out of 5 stars Vinotemp wine chillers aren't built for Pinot Noir or Champagne bottles   November 24, 2007

Whatever number of bottles Vinotemp says its wine chillers will hold, don't believe it. They don't allow enough space between racks to store the fatter bottles of Champagne and Burgundy wines. As a result, you have to remove the racks and stack the bottles atop each other. The top middle spot is also useless unless you have a skinny bottle of Riesling because the light fixture prevents you from putting anything fatter than that there. It's a nice unit and quiet. Just don't count on storing as many bottles as it says it can.

I looked at the Cuisinart 6-bottle (3 rows of two bottles) and 12-bottle (3 rows of 4) wine chillers and the 6-bottle unit is about as wide and tall as the Vinotemp 12-bottle unit (4 rows of 3). The Cuisinart wire racks are also sturdier, has adequate space between racks for the fatter bottles, and also has a stop on the end of the rack to prevent you from accidentally pulling the rack all the way out (which can happen with the Vinotemp rack). The Cuisinart unit I saw was not plugged in and operating so I don't know how quiet or noisy it is. But to me, the Cuisinart wine chiller seemed to be a better thought out design than the Vinotemp. And I've heard that the larger Vinotemp units have similar design flaws too.
